Future meaning for present survival
“2020 is a write off…” is one of the descriptions regarding 2020 I’ve heard said regarding the difficult and challenging year we find ourselves in.
Many have died, unemployment rising, the NHS and many social services at breaking point. Short-termism is flexing its muscles and has sadly torn a few ligaments of societal fabric in its failure to offer any robust answers. Eat out to help out has swiftly turned in to stay home to save home. The chaotic response to this unprecedented challenge is illustrative of so much in modern society. Present survival at the cost of future thriving. Short term gain yet long term cost.
This so often translates into our day to day lives. Leaving the house at the last second to get to a destination, instant credit, transfer balances, buy now - pay later, fast fashion, and much more. There is no judgement here. I to wrestle with many aspects in life. The urgent often imposes and dictates over and above that which is important. How can we begin to break this cycle?
always keep long term progress the central focus
small incremental change is more meaningful than large sweeping changes
save until you can afford it
cut up the credit cards
begin to see life as a Michelin star restaurant not a fast food take-away
Dream, think and write down a non-restrictive plan for the next 3 - 5 - 7 years
set measurable, achievable, realistic targets
I’ve no doubt there is much more shared wisdom amongst your family, friends and from our own past experiences. So, draw on this wisdom and use those experiences to create a full and fruitful future.
a final word about trajectory. Trajectory is everything. Hard work now will save so much tedious and difficult work in the future. Start right and we’ve got a better chance of landing right.
