The waste of a consumeristic mindset

The waste of a consumeristic mindset

Live as a contributor rather than a consumer

We live in a world which orients around consumerism. Whether it be the overconsumption of food, the simultaneous consumption of multiple media outlets or the relentless pursuit of happiness via retail therapy and fast fashion. The thirst of consumption is relentless and insatiable. I think it ironic the significant waste as a by-product of consumerism.

When it comes to vegetables, we only want to consume the right shaped and coloured veg while large quantities aren't 'fit for sale'. When this theory is applied to our own lives, it surprising how much waste is sadly left in the wake of consumerism.

Netflix binge-watching, YouTube rabbit holes, and hours lost daily to social networking feed and perfect selfies. Let's turn it off. We don't have to be the product.

We don't have to be the statistic.

BECOME A CONTRIBUTOR RATHER THAN A CONSUMER.

  • Contributors exercise their mind, creativity and autonomy as a person.

  • Contributors are those who decide to actively engage with life rather than passively be blown by the winds of life.

  • Contributors add value to others lives and in turn increase self-worth, confidence and the possibility of discovering a more meaningful existence.

  • Contributors serve, support and sacrifice.

  • Contributors give and invest not spend and claim rights.

Is there anything that we can stop consuming and start using that time and energy to contribute?
