Safeguarding &

Duty of Care Statement

That Grief Guy — Jim Wilkinson

I am committed to providing safe, ethical, and trauma-informed support to all clients.

Grief coaching is non-clinical support, but safeguarding remains a priority in all interactions.

1. Commitment to Safety

I take all reasonable steps to ensure clients are supported in a way that protects their emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing.

This includes:

  • maintaining professional boundaries

  • using trauma-informed communication

  • ensuring confidentiality

  • working within my competence

  • signposting to clinical or emergency services when appropriate

2. When Safeguarding Overrides Confidentiality

Confidentiality may be broken if:

  • you disclose intent to harm yourself or someone else

  • there is concern for a child or vulnerable adult

  • there is risk of suicide

  • information is required by law

In these situations, I will always aim to discuss the concern with you first.

3. Crisis & Emergency Situations

Coaching is not an emergency service.

If you are in immediate danger, or experiencing suicidal thoughts, please contact:

  • Emergency Services: 999

  • Samaritans (UK): 116 123

  • Your GP or local crisis team

I will support you in finding the right level of care.

4. Professional Boundaries

  • I do not offer clinical therapy or medical advice

  • Sessions may be paused or ended if coaching is no longer appropriate

  • Referrals will be made when clients require clinical support

5. Reporting & Documentation

All safeguarding concerns will be documented securely in line with UK GDPR and retained for the period required by law.
